Rene´ Lee Henry was born in Scottsdale, AZ, and relocated to San Diego, CA in 1990. She worked as a professional graphic designer for nine years, but has moved away from that to pursue a career as a jeweler. She received her BA with honors, in applied design from San Diego State University in 2013, where she was the recipient of several scholarships and awards. In 2016 she relocated to Houston, TX for the artist in residence program at Houston Center for Contemporary Craft. After the residency ended, she has continued her studio practice making one-of-a-kind and limited production jewelry and teaches jewelry / metals workshops in the Houston area. She is co-founder of VAR Collective; a forum for jewelers and makers to exchange ideas about contemporary craft as well as creating and promoting contemporary craft in San Diego. Her work has been featured in exhibitions across the United States and was published in Showcase 500 Art Necklaces, by Lark publishing and in The 2016 Contemporary Jewelry Exchange. Recently, she was selected to be part of Materials: Hard & Soft by the Greater Denton Arts Council; Ware/Wear at Pocosin Art Center where she was awarded Best in Show; and Spirit and Matterat the Jung Center when she was awarded Best Use of Materials.
